Wharves and Piers

Ben C. Gerwick, Inc. has designed and constructed marine terminals, both onshore and offshore. Many of the marine oil terminals in California have been designed and built by Gerwick. More recently, Gerwick developed the use of specially designed vertical piles in wharf construction, instead of batter piles, to provide ductile moment resistance to lateral loads resulting from earthquakes. This system is now being incorporated in most new wharf construction in areas of high seismicity.   Rehabilitation of Fishing Pier
